Applications of Deep Learning: Colorization
Have you ever heard of the documentary “World War II in Colour” (2009)? It has been realized through the process of digital colourization.
Colourization is a process that allows us to add colour to black-and-white videos and images. It is especially used in the film industry to restore black-and-white movies or do remakes. The first digitally colourized movie is “Tooper” (1937), by Hal Roach Studios.
Although colourization used to be completely done by humans, it can now be automated thanks to AI models trained through deep learning.
